The 2022 invasion of Ukraine led to a humanitarian crisis.
Woodnext rapidly made 8 grants to the following organizations, some of which are operating within the borders of Ukraine and some that are providing relief to refugees who have fled the crisis. The situation was changing moment to moment and government funding can take months for nonprofits to access. Philanthropy dollars are critical to allowing nonprofits to act quickly and have the flexibility to pivot.
- Water Mission is coordinating with the UN and other NGOs to set up hygiene/clean water stations for refugees in Poland, Romania, and Moldova
- Good360 is shipping containers of donated goods from companies in the US to Ukraine
- Doctors Without Borders (Medicins Sans Frontieres, MSF) has a conflict-experienced surgical training team currently in Ukraine providing in-person training and support in major hospitals.
- World Central Kitchen is coordinating with local restaurants to serve 100K meals per day
- Save the Children is working inside and outside the country on rapid response efforts to provide child protection, mental health and education programming, and supplies to families.
- Odessa Charity Foundation Way Home is a local Ukrainian nonprofit providing supplies/food and support to families. We funded them through the Global Giving platform.
- Internews is providing emergency funds to protect Ukrainian journalists and help them provide trustworthy, life-saving information to communities in conflict areas.
- Center for Disaster Philanthropy Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Recovery Fund is distributing funds across vetted NGOs to address humanitarian needs that arise.
